Chamber Info
The House and Senate Chambers offer a unique, one-hour program that invites students and groups into either Chamber to sit at a legislator’s desk. After an explanation and discussion of the legislative process, participants take part in a mock session, debating and voting on a bill just like real legislators.
Chamber presentations are designed for students in grades 4 through 12 who are studying history, government, or civics. These presentations are also ideal for adult civic groups and professional organizations. A full presentation requires a minimum of 20 participants. The Senate Chamber has 40 Senator seats, and two additional seats for someone to serve as Presiding Officer and Clerk, and the House Chamber can accomidate 100 participants.
Chamber Presentations are free and offer an interactive way to learn about Virginia’s government in action.
IMPORTANT: Chamber Presentations are not available during the legislative session, which runs from the second Wednesday in January through approximately mid-March. Special legislative sessions also determine availability.
