About the Capitol

The Virginia State Capitol was designed by Thomas Jefferson and is home to over 200 years of history.

Who’s My Legislator?

The Virginia General Assembly is the first representative government in the New World. Since 1619, this citizen legislature has met to create laws, balance the budget, and elect judges.

Every four years citizens vote for Senators and every two years vote for Delegates. So who’s your legislator? How long has he or she been a member? Find out those answers and more for Senators & Delegates.

How a Bill Becomes a Law

A bill is an idea for a law. Follow a bill on its journey from an idea all the way to becoming a law.

During the General Assembly session you can watch the Senate of Virginia and House of Delegates live!
