The Virginia State Capitol welcomes visitors year-round to explore its rich history, notable architecture, and role in government. Whether you prefer a structured guided tour or to explore at your own pace, there’s an option for everyone.

Regular Hours

Capitol Visitor Hours:

  • Monday–Saturday: 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
  • Sunday: 1:00–5:00 p.m.

Capitol Square Grounds:

  • Open daily: 6:00 a.m.–9:00 p.m.

Holiday Hours

  • Open: Election Day, Martin Luther King Day, Presidents Day, Easter, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day
  • Closed: Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day
  • Special Hours: Additional state holidays before/after Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year’s may have adjusted. Please call ahead of time.
