Accessible drop off at the Capitol is available at the Bank Street entrance (1000 Bank Street, Richmond, VA). Drivers can enter Bank Street via12th or 14th Street, pull up to the Capitol Visitor Entrance, unload passengers, and continue to their parking destination. Pick-up can happen in the same manner at the end of a visit.

New Paid Parking Option for Capitol Square

Paid parking for Capitol Square visitors is available from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and Saturday 8 a.m. – 6 p.m., Sunday 12 p.m. – 6pm, excluding state holidays in the 9th and Franklin Street Parking Deck. Visitors must take their ticket with them for re-entry into parking facility. No overnight parking. Parking rates, (credit or debit cards only), are $5/hour or $20/day. This parking deck can be accessed by heading North on 9th street after turning onto or crossing Main Street. Immediately after the Bank Street stop light the parking deck entrance is on the left. The first pedestrian entrance to the grounds which is ADA accessible, is opposite the parking deck on 9th street at the historic Capitol Bell Tower. Additional accommodations can still be made for those needing accessibility accommodations and are arriving via a passenger vehicle by calling (804) 698-1788 to arrange for drop-off inside Capitol Square.

Other Public Parking

Parking is available in several surface and deck lots in the blocks surrounding the Capitol. You can use the Parkopedia website to locate these parking options. Accessibility

The Capitol is fully accessible to visitors with special needs. The Capitol and its underground extension have wheelchairaccessible restrooms, ramps and elevators, and there is barrier-free access from the extension to the original 1788 Capitol and the 1906 legislative wings.Accessible drop off at the Capitol is available at the Bank Street entrance (1000 Bank Street, Richmond, VA). Accessible drop off at the GAB is available on 10th Street between the GAB and Old City Hall. Drivers can enter 10th Street via Broad Street, pull up to the Capitol Police guard house and let the officer on duty know they are dropping off a person with mobility limitations. Drivers may unload passengers here, and then continue to their parking destination. Pick-up can happen in the same manner at the end of a visit.

Building Occupancies

The Capitol Police, in collaboration with the State Fire Marshal, enforce the occupancy loads for the Virginia Capitol and General Assembly Buildings and have a process for tracking these numbers in real-time. If capacity is reached, access will be temporarily halted until numbers decrease.

The maximum capacity for the Virginia Capitol Building is 1,958 and the General Assembly Building is 12,169.
